Encore Jon Strong who highlights a fundamental lack of strategic thinking and customer focus.
Too often BI is misapplied or sabotaged by the beancounters, who know the cost of everything and the value of nothing.
A typical examply is "offshoring" as a cost cutting exercise rather than ensuring it provides an enhanced and more timely service which satisfies customer requirements.
The "bottom line" "cost effectiveness" "dividend yield" whilst not to be ignored, are short/medium term measures which are ineffective in promoting & sustaining medium/long term stability, growth & competitive advantage of a business.
It is the latter which BI can help address.
What is required are experienced MBAs with their strategic vision & broad understanding of businesses to empower & support it, not the plethora of myopic beancounters who abuse it.
