Or have you already forgotten those New Year resolutions?

By now you've probably pretty much given up on all your New Year resolutions.

Your trainers are gathering dust, the biscuit jar has been raided, the ashtray is full and the wine bottles empty. The usual stuff - same as last year.

Or perhaps you've stuck with it - perhaps a good move considering the health warning for overweight IT managers that we revealed recently.

This means you may be part of the horde I see queuing at the fruit and veg stall every morning when I leave the Tube. And maybe you've decided this year you really will change jobs - in which case you might be checking out our top tips on writing an effective CV.

But it's not just individuals who should have New Year resolutions, how about making some for your company too?

Like - losing weight. Bloated IT systems are an increasingly common problem - companies struggling with IT systems that have grown unwieldy, gorged on unnecessary data that the business just won't throw away, just like the empty calories we all guzzled over Christmas.

And of course, after the binge, the indigestion - all that valueless data clogging up the arteries of the organisation, slowing down the IT systems as well as the business decision making.

Going green isn't a bad resolution either. Do you switch your monitor off when you are away from your desk? Or the lights when you leave your office? Or print on both sides of a piece of paper?

And what about the bigger picture? How efficient is the data centre? Have you looked at cutting down business travel by using remote working and video conferences, or making environmental issues part of you procurement thinking?

There are plenty more out there - tightening up the security of customer data is a good one too. So if you have any other corporate New Year resolutions out there, share them with us by adding a reader comment below. And don't forget, New Year resolutions are for the whole year - not just for January.
